Mobile flash applications today are unable to offer advanced ECC, as the cost, power, and silicon area required for traditional implementations are prohibitive in a mobile setting. Cost: Today, all but the simplest mobile applications must use SLC and MLC, the most expensive types of flash memory. TLC flash, which stores more bits per cell, is unable to realize the reliability and endurance of the more expensive types of flash memory.
